SAFER CROSS WALK FOR OUR CHILDREN?
According to Chuck Harlow’s office at The State Department of Transportation, The City of New Haven was approved to install a flashing yellow light in front of Nathan Hale School that turned red when a pedestrian wanted to cross. This was conditional that the City of New Haven pay for the price of the construction.

According to our alderman, the crosswalk approved was at Townsend and Upson Terrace. Here is a copy of an E-mail I sent to our alderman, Mayor DeStefano, Charles Harlow (state of ct), Senator Looney, and Jim Travers (city of New Haven). Please feel free to cut and paste this into your own e-mail and send it off. I have yet to hear back from anyone.

I am writing all of you in the hopes that we can install some type of traffic calming measures in front to Nathan Hale School on Townsend Avenue in New Haven. It is used frequently by children at all hours of the day, and I believe that due to speeding and people ignoring the crosswalk, that it is a hazard. Could any of you please help me get the ball rolling on installing some sort of signal light that halted traffic?
Any information, advice, or help you could give me would be appreciated by myself and the other parents in the neighborhood. I know it is a state road, and have included contacts at the state level in the hopes that together we can communicate and resolve this safety issue.
Thank you for any help you can give us.
