This is waaay too disgusting and indicates a lack our ownership in our communities. There must be some ways that we can do community building and strengthening that will allow folks to feel like they are a part of their neighborhood. What can you do as an individual? Go out and meet one of your neighbors today.
I work in that area, and this happens on a daily basis, and we report it, and it takes weeks and weeks for them to clean the area. Why do people feel that they can use this area as a dumping ground? We do know our neighbors, and we all do not dump this garbage in our area. There has to be a way to catch these individuals who dump here and leave the area in such a mess!
Looking at the trash in that photo, it looks like a lot of it came from a picnic or birthday party or some type of gathering. I'm trying to imagine how loose party trash got there. Generally, you dump your paper plates, empty plastic utensil containers and cups in trash bags during the party. How did all that loose party trash get transported there? Was it all thrown into tha back of a truck and swept out at that location, or what?
I'd like to see surveillance cameras placed at dumping hot spots, as was recommended by the City Auditor's report on the PWA. At the very least, prominant NO DUMPING signs should be posted.
