This is one of the few places in the entire country where an Interstate highway has a stop light. It should be fixed, with all necessary respect for the Franklin Square site.

Could you please be more specific as to your complaint.
Are suggesting a way to get on the Ben Franklin Bridge, directly from I-676?
If you are, you would have to look at the poor planning and lack of future vision for this area since the Vine Street Expressway was started.
No one ever envisioned that Franklin Square would be anything but a homeless haven/potters field. No one ever thought that Old City would be anything but industry. If they did, the area you're discussing (if I'm correct) would have been planned with better traffic flow and pedestrian safety in mind.
It should be noted, according to wikipedia, that the BF bridge, built in 1926, is not up to Interstate standards.
So it was probably that fact, that allowed the at-grade intersection to be included in the plan.
I am aware of the history, hence the "with all necessary respect for the Franklin Square site" phrase. I still believe that if PennDOT can find a way to build this as a direct connection (since it's signed as I-676 even though it's a surface connection) with minimal impact to the area, they should do so.
I totally agree and would really help those who live in the neighborhood who attempt to walk and navigate the insane amount of traffic that heads down the ramp at insane speeds. It's amazing how dangerous crossing both these roads are to get to old city and Franklin Square.
