The roads around Stanley Lake are a great ride. Bike lanes or share the road signs might help with rude drivers that act as bikes don't belong in this area.
City of Westminster - Please add bike lanes or some kind of path here before someone is killed on this route. This is a very obvious place for a bike path given the natural beauty of the lake and the Eagles; however, drivers also like to look around for the Eagles when driving (since stopping / parking is not permitted) and it creates an extremely dangerous situation. I have witness several close calls between bikers and cars, and would like to see a proactive rather than reactive approach to this issue. This area is a huge asset to the city, please provide your citizens with the ability to safely enjoy it.
Forgive my skepticism, but I drove that stretch of the road around Stanley Lake (Alkire from 96th to 100th, then 100th from Alkire [13200] to Simms [11600] ) today and could find NO improvements! The road still has just enough space for one lane in each direction, with NO shoulder, NO bike path / sidewalk, NO markings, etc. in sight.

Shane, I'm afraid it has happened. Here's a Denver Post article:

The bicyclist who was hit and killed in Westminster on Tuesday was identified today.
Sidney Walker Johnson, 52 of Arvada, was killed when he was hit on West 100th Avenue between Simms and Alkire streets, according to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.
No charges have been filed against the driver of the green 2005 Kia Sorento, and investigators are working to recreate the accident, said Trevor Materasso, spokesman for the Westminster Police Department.
Johnson was hit around 2 p.m. while traveling westbound on West 100th Avenue.
The driver's name has not been released.
Investigators believe that Johnson was wearing his helmet when he was hit.
My dad was the one that was killed in this accident. I recently just came across this forum, and it makes me sad to see that nothing has been done even though people have brought this road up as an issue a long time ago. To me, there is no better time than now to push this issue, and I'm working with Bike Jeffco to advocate to fix this road, along with a few others. If any of you are interested in helping us in this effort, feel free to email me at kmjohnson15@gmail.com. We've also created a website at cyclistshaverights.org that you can check out for more info.
Even if you don't have time to help, I'd like to start compiling a petition to give to the City of Westminster to see how many residents want to see a change done to this road. If you can send the following info to my email, it would be greatly appreciated!
-Name
-Connection to Westminster (resident, cycle through there, work there, etc)
- Your Specific Issue with this Road
-What You'd Like to See Done
-Contact Info (optional)
City residents, we need your help. Please contact city council by phone, email or mail, and let them know how important it is to see improvements on 100th Ave immediately. They will do nothing without your insistence.
