I AGREE!! City crews should be removing signs and billing the group responsible for the sign. There should be an ordinance that has a set penalty of fee for each sign removed from public property. This also inclufes signs for other measures including the NO on 32 signs posted by the unions.

It is obvious and it is not just near freeway onramps. It is on public property all over the city. It shouldn't need a specific request. All public works and park maintenance staff should be removing these signs as a regular part of their job. They should also be logging the location and fining the candidate or campaign committee. If you can not direct the public works staff to remove any sign they see without an individual service request with the exact location indicated, please ask the City Administrator to issue an order directing staff to follow the law and remove such signs.

I don't how much more EXACT one can be stating FREEWAY entrances and EXIT ramps all throughout Oakland 880 & 580 FREEWAYS!

I'm afraid to say you stand little to no chance of any permanent action or action against the posters being taken. You'll have to raise this at City Hall, find council members to champion your cause and put in a lot of effort to make it happen. I'll give you an example where people did try to do something about signs and failed:

Several people in the neighborhood waged a quite lengthy battle against the "have van" guy who plasters his signs over every single electric pole in our neighborhood and extensively in other cities in the East Bay. A few temporary postings for neighborhood serving purposes (lost pet, upcoming event) are fine by me but this guy causes blight and renews his signs weekly. Those who don't like them have to rip them down every single Monday. Attempts to call him or talk to him in person about the fly-postings were met with hostility and abuse. So the people raised this at our community meetings with OPD and City folks, several years back and someone in the city helped out and discovered his business is not licensed and his van he uses isn't license for commercial use either. However they refused to go further and take action for reasons I don't recall, probably because being "anti business" or against the little guy isn't popular.

I have nothing against someone trying to make a living but shouldn't he have to advertise in normal ways and not litter our streets? And shouldn't he have to register his business and vehicle just like anyone else who does things above board? Apparently not.

Still so long as we have a trash problem and graffiti problem I would rather city staff deal with those first, even if you regard illegal signs as another form of graffiti.

I humbly suggest you form a posy and remove the signs yourself. After a year of diligently removing the have van signs I gave up myself, I suspect your posters may be less persistent.

I don't know how EXACT stating FREEWAY entrances and exit ramp can be in regards to an exact address. Stating to give an exact address and or cross street and if none are given, this issue will be closed. Please do the service tax payers are paying for and remove all littler from these ENTRANCES & Exit ramps leading to and from freeways - 880 and 580 throughout Oakland. Hope this is enough information for the Public Works Department to get the job done.

It is highly unlikely that the City Council will do anything. Most of the signs this year are DeLaFuente and Brunner. Department heads are not likely to do their job because they serve at the pleasure of the Mayor. Just another day of dirty politics in Oakland.

Will, that's funny, maybe the East Bay Express can do a quick article on "Dirty Politics" - I mean do they really think these signs will convince anyone of anything? They are really just political gang tags. Some campaign manager has it on their check list and they do it year after year. It is bad for the environment and a waste of money.
