L & I has been contacted and they have dinged the property for lack of windows some time ago. Drug dealers/users/prostitutes still live above the check cashing business which has been closed following a robbery and violent attack of the owner on 5/21/11. Dealers from the Holy Trinity Baptist Houses at 2202 Fitzwater and the PHA houses at 2133 and 2135 Fitzwater continue to use the side of the building as a point of purchase and distribution--often making transactions behind the building on Fulton Street--the street between the check cashing and Luck Day.
The correct address of the building is 2200 St Albans Street. It has, most recently, been put up for sale and, from what I've heard, it is currently under contract.
Thanks for the update. I appreciate it. I only walk by this building so I can't begin to imagine what it must be to live next door to it or even on the same block. Am glad that is finally up for sale and hopefully will either by taken down or renovated. As for the dealers, until we all make sure to call the police when they are there it will continue.
In reference to the same property, the following was posted a few months ago. According to this post, It appears as if the issue has recently been tagged as "acknowledged" (?) Although, I live in the immediate area, and haven't seen any change in the drug activity that usually takes place on the 22nd street side of the building during the day, and in front of Lucky Day during the night.
Has become worse! Someone removed all the windows and the back if the property and then walked away! The large window on 22nd has fallen out and is only supported by the public phone outside the property.
In reference to an inquiry requesting the status of the property located at 2200 St Albans Street, I received the following information the City of Philadelphia's 311 Contact Center:
L&I has issued violations for this property. The 3rd inspection is scheduled for 11/6/2012. If not complied at last inspection, property will be referred to court for a judgment from the court demanding the owner to resolve the problems. In a rare case where the owner has been removed from the property by city agencies, coordinated efforts will be made to correct the outstanding violations.
The owners, who did acquire a permit for the interior demolition, are in violation since they also went ahead and took down the entire second story of back of the building. They should be fined for this as well as for several windows and door violations.
By the way, dealers from the local PHA houses at 2202, 2204,2133,2135,2136,2138 Fitzwater are still using the side entrance of the property for drug sales.
