Let's not close other citizens issues until we can here from Raleigh if permits are issued to close the road. They had the lane completely closed off. This should be investigated to ensure the proper permits were issued. Thanks!

Good point Doc. This must be investigated immediately. A past issue sounds like a great use of time for City of Raleigh employees. We could also hire some gifted persons on COR staff to analyze permits that haven't yet been required, anticipated nor requested yet.

Despite llboyd's cynicism it seems like an appropriate use of resources to ensure a private business is not skirting the permit fees to do a job- since a CoR permit is required for this work (right of way work permit). I would be more interested to know that since they totally dug up a city sidewalk if they are required to replace this with ADA sidewalks now.

@ llboyd, I do believe a permit is require to do work within the right-of-way and another permit is required if the work require a street closure. It doesn't take a gifted person to know this, it only takes about 45 seconds of reading the City of Raleigh site. I also am interested in Alison's query, since a private compant dug up an older city sidewalk, if they must now replace it with an ADA compliant sidewalk and crossing.

I've referred this to our Public Works Department. When the staff has had a chance to respond I’ll post an update. Thanks for reporting.

Per Public Works, City staff met with the contractor, and they now understand our expectations. There was a problem with communication. It has been resolved.
