The Jack London District in Oakland, California

Notified About

  • 600 5th Street Oakland California - Old City-Produce And Waterfront
This is a modern day Hooverville. This should not be happening on the fringes of one of the richest cities in America. It is an outrage. If the structures of our culture have failed so many people that there's a shanty town on the sidewalk then the city needs to acknowledge the problem and create a space for them to camp that includes services like trash removal and toilets rather than just allowing these sidewalk camps to spread. It's reached the point where pedestrian access is completely blocked and piles of garbage are blocking a whole lane of traffic. These people aren't just the few that fall through the cracks they are an entire community. They are people who have been evicted and lost work and have nowhere to go. This is not normal! I understand that this situation is complicated and hard for the city to deal with but it should not just be ignored. We have been so patient with this but it keeps getting worse and as months pass it's having a very negative effect on our community. We don't want the cops to come in and break it up, it just forms again a day later on the other side of the street. We want these people to be given a place to be, some dignity and basic services.
  • 428 3rd St Oakland CA 94607, Oakland, CA - Old City-Produce And Waterfront
Now that there has been a gunshot death inside Club Anton (instead of just extreme noise, unruly patrons, altercations, and a prior shooting involving Club Anton customers outside the club), PLEASE RESPOND TO THE YEARS OF COMPLAINTS (to the owner, the police, Nancy Nadal, Lynnette McElhaney, and other City agencies and officials). REVOKE CLUB ANTON'S LIQUOR LICENSE AND SHUT IT DOWN!
  • 500 Broadway Oakland, California - Old City-Produce And Waterfront
The underpass on Broadway between 5th and 6th Streets requires (1) pressure washing at both street level and at the top of the red pillars to get rid of the ugly, smelly bird droppings, which really make the artwork look gross, and (2) repair to the City-installed lighting at the bottom of the pillars. We really appreciate the recently improved trash pickups by the City and CalTrans' now keeping the underpass lit from above during the day. These last two requests are City and NOT CalTrans matters, since they relate to the area where the "artwork" pillars are located on and above the sidewalk on the street side of the CalTrans fence.
  • 482 Oak Street Oakland, CA - Produce And Waterfront
Most of the wall at the South East corner at the intersection between 5th street and Oak Street is plastered with random writing. It is highly visible from the freeway and is the major way Oakland Citizens access the 880 freeway. This makes the entire city look bad.
  • Sidewalk is missing Acknowledged
100 2nd Street Oakland, California - Produce And Waterfront
There is no sidewalk on the south / west half block of Oak Street, between 3rd and 2nd Streets. It's a pain to walk this section of the block as it's just gravel and uneven earth. I realize the property adjacent to the missing sidewalk is rather blighted, but still, there ought to be a sidewalk there, yes?
  • 5th Street & Interstate 880 Oakland, CA 94607, USA - Old City-Produce And Waterfront
Homeless encampment above the entrance to the Webster Tube is very dangerous. Trash is falling down into the path of traffic and pedestrians are crossing in front of cars. Some is going to get hurt or killed if this is allowed to go on. CalTrans needs to do something about it!
  • Illegal Dumping Acknowledged
    267 5th Street Oakland, CA 94607, USA - Old City-Produce And Waterfront
This trash is from the JLD Trash Bash pickup on June 9th. The JLD called into Oakland Public Works and Keep Oakland Beautiful on Tuesday June 11th am, the order number given by O PW was 464901. One week layer and the trash is still there. The bags are broken and rotting garbage and debris is spreading everywhere, any neighbor complaints. OPE and KOB, would you please follow through?!!! Our constant at OPE was Sarah Corso.
  • 600-648 4th Street Oakland, California - Old City-Produce And Waterfront
An obviously mentally disturbed person has setup an encampment complete with tent, furniture and shopping carts (oh and a no parking sign) on the corner of martin Luther king and 4th St. He is openly defecating, thumping on parked cars and harassing passers by.
  • Broadway And 3rd St Oakland, CA - Old City-Produce And Waterfront
Over the past two months, this particular crosswalk constantly has dumpsters, trash, and dumped furniture in the pathway.
I think the dumpsters belong to Domino's, who said that they would take care of it. So far nothing has been done.
There's constantly people going through the dumpsters (as you can see from the photos), throwing and leaving trash everywhere. Additionally, I've seen a few people almost fall from slipping on pizza boxes and loose debris.
This isn't safe for pedestrians nor does it reflect well on our city. Please clean and/or contact the responsible company regarding appropriate locations to leave their dumpsters.
  • 500 Broadway Oakland, CA - Old City-Produce And Waterfront
Once again, Broadway underpass is filthy with garbage, blankets, and bird droppings, and people who look to be "voluntarily homeless" are begging at 6th and Broadway (opposite police station), behind the pillar at 5th and Broadway (same side of street as police station), and in center divide. These particular spots must be choice for collections. This needs to be a NO TOLERANCE ZONE. Absolute travesty!
  • Blocked sidewalks Acknowledged
Webster At 5th Oakland, California - Old City-Produce And Waterfront
This has been going on for months!!! Now it appears that they have purposely put a obstruction to block pedestrians so we have to walk in the middle of the street. This problem is a complete joke
  • 333 Broadway Oakland, CA 94607, USA - Old City-Produce And Waterfront
I don't know if this is considered illegal dumping, but it hasn't been picked up for many, many days.
