  • 238 College St New Haven, CT, 06510, USA - Town_Green

    (please see https://www.justice.gov/usao-ct/pr/college-street-music-hall-new-haven-will-increase-accessibility-comply-ada)

The settlement of the above referenced action by the DOJ resulted in an ADA-complaint sidewalk in front of College St Music Hall. When the City of New Haven made the discriminatory decision to provide able individuals with the protected bike lane on College St. and allow restaurants to encroach upon the path of travel that was barely accessible as it was, it illegally left people who have disabilities with no access to that ADA-compliant sidewalk or that venue.

It would have been easily possible to create a pedestrian travel lane on the roadway where some of that outdoor seating is and more the seating to the slate slabs that pass for a sidewalk, so it seems that this discrimination was intentional.

Pleas provide equal access to College St. Music Hall.

So what's the deal with College Street between Chapel and Crown? The bike lane is useless because it's either filled with double parked cars or dangerous because of cars entering and exiting the illegal parking spots on the west side. Get rid of the flex posts, replace them with permanent barriers, and make it a wide two-way cycletrack removing the parking on the west side so it's actually safe for all users.

NHPA isn't even getting any parking fees from the meters on the west side, and many of the meters are missing from the east side.

  • 160 Temple St New Haven, CT, 06510, USA - Town_Green
At approximately 12 noon today 05.12.2022 several hundred students were gathered at front of Omni - on both sides of Temple near the entry to the small park. 50 [?] or so students blocked Temple traffic and car attempting to park at Omni Garage on Temple Street. One student body slammed the hood of a blocked car. I was behind him. He finally honked his horn and moved forward thru and away thru from the crowd. I followed closely behind to prevent students from jumping out, from blocking me. This is down Temple from the road work and funnels traffic into one lane. This event was visually and in earshot of workers and Police at work scene.
  • Ct-34 E & Church St S New Haven, CT, 06519, USA - Hill

I've lived next to this high-traffic area for the last six months, and every time I walk through the crosswalk or drive at this intersection, cars are dangerously bottled up and block traffic across the intersection. As a driver, I and others must dangerously snake through cars or wait until the next green light comes. Moreover, as a pedestrian, I'm worried drivers already blocking the intersection are anxious that they're violating traffic rules. As a result, they'll be less likely to see me crossing the street. I've also seen many ambulances blocked by traffic, potentially resulting in life-threatening delays.

I suspect the consistent bottleneck is caused by asynchronous traffic lights between South Frontage Rd & Church St South and South Frontage Rd & Orange St South. The additional traffic light on Orange turns red at different times than the light on Church. Since there is only a tiny gap between the streets, drivers overestimate how much space they have to cross the intersection.

Is it possible to synchronize the two signals and time them to the speed limit? This seems like a relatively straightforward (and cheap) fix that will make pedestrians and drivers much safer. I don't confess to knowing much about urban planning, so there may be many other factors behind the traffic lights that I do not know. Still, I hope the City can resolve this issue quickly in the name of safety.

  • 1070 Chapel St New Haven CT 06510, United States - Town_Green
There is a walk light and a green light at the same time
Cars are turning right onto High street while people are in the crosswalk
  • 930 Chapel St New Haven, CT 06510, USA - Downtown
This corner is too dark at night!! why has this light been out for so long?
Please fix it, this is a safety hazzard!
  • 20 Church St New Haven, CT, 06510, USA - Town_Green
There is a 4"+ pipe projecting above road surface in middle lane, before Crown Street.
  • Church St & Crown St New Haven, CT, 06510, USA - Town_Green
the pedestrian signal to cross church street on the north side of crown street does not last long enough for people with mobility issues to cross. the traffic light for cars lasts about 90 seconds, and pedestrians only get 10 seconds to cross five lanes. This is a major pedestrian intersection with multiple bus stops, shops, and gateway CC nearby, and should be safely usable by people of all ability levels.
  • Crown St & High St New Haven, Connecticut, 06510 - Town_Green
Traffic light not working at Crown and High St intersection. Since there is no pedestrian signal, this light being out makes it difficult to know when it's safe to cross.
  • S Frontage Rd New Haven, CT, 06519, USA - Dwight

On South Frontage Road, south of the South Chapel Bridge, there are newly constructed manholes for which the covers are not anchored securely. They rattle and clank with each car passing over them.
This road routes all traffic from Yale New Haven Hospital as well as the research labs.
I live at the Towers Senior Apartments (Tower Lane) and listen to this noise 24X7. Very disruptive and annoying.

Thanking you in Advance for your time and resolution of this problem

Really? Directly across the street from City Hall? On a busy pathway on the green, this huge puddle is blocking two of the paths! No one noticed? No one has come over to repair it?
