There are other longstanding nearby reports of poor drainage. Those places are currently dry but this spot Farrar & Holden has been wet all winter, and I don't think it's a low point that is collecting water, it seems more like a mysterious source. Consider that there could be a water leak here. Lead photo looks up Farrar St

Paid for dehumidifier pick up permit 249916 but put it out late and it was not collected. What should I do now. It is still out at the curb. Also a disposal I was hoping could be collected at the same time, but there isn't a permit for those afaik

Milled pavement (from Fri Oct 21) with incomplete signage and no ramps at edges or raised manholes. Same omissions recently also seen at Beech St, Day St, and Fayette St. I'm not looking for a gift, these are requirements for every work site in the City. Everybody likes new pavement, but if you can't turn it around same day, you can't leave dangerous conditions while we wait for the job to complete.

couple of small potholes; the top one in this picture keeps catching me out when I am pulling out on my bike for a left turn into the fairly heavy Cambridge St/Inman Sq traffic; unhelpful surprise when you're trying to merge promptly into traffic. Filling them would be great.

Pavement milled a couple weeks ago. Signage not maintained and not visible. No ramps at edges of milled surface, which is normally required for this work in the City. With passage of time, other potholes are forming. Why isn't this work site up to usual safety standards? What is latest guess on when it will be paved?

Appears to be of a piece with Beech St, which had same issues of neglected signage, degraded surface, and missing edge ramps:

Ped crossing button on S side of Mass Ave at Cameron is beeping constantly, isn't this supposed to be only when the ped crossing signal is active?

When is paving crew expected? Pavement here that was milled last week has sharp edges all around and no protection for manhole covers just some hi-vis paint. Is it not Cambridge practice to require pavement steps to be ramped?

Exact same issue on Day St -- probably same contract?

Lane markings here at the end of Brookline st need a refresh. Cars often queue incorrectly in the right lane to go up Brookline st, setting up races to the single lane on the other side of the intersection with properly queued cars on the left, and a squeeze on a bike properly queued between the lanes to go up Brookline.

Overnight snow removal would be welcome in Mass Ave/Walden intersection right up to Gustazo's fence. Snow is encroaching on right lane (8am today). 3 lanes here carry lots of traffic and are minimal width even when fully clear.

Regret having to post this yet again. Photo was today, 7:45am.

I have seen when passing at other times that building management properly places dumpsters and toters on the sidewalk, and appears to be making a good faith effort to get them off the street immediately at 8am when their maintenance person comes on duty.

The problem is the Republic crew that empties these dumpsters is choosing to leave them blocking a travel lane on an arterial road, which I don't think is a choice they normally make elsewhere.

They left them in the same spot back when this was parking and that didn't obstruct the road, but it's pretty hard not to notice that the configuration of the road has changed.

The sidewalk here is huge, it doesn't take much finesse to get them off the street without blocking something else.

If issuing citations is the only thing the city can do, they should make a point of visiting before 8am on Mondays and Fridays until it stops happening. I am sorry they can't cite Republic rather than building management.

  • Burns Apartments 50 Churchill Ave, Cambridge, MA 02140, USA - North Cambridge

Churchill Ave carries heavy morning traffic both ways for arrivals at Matignon/ISB schools 7:30—8:00. (I have been a part of that traffic every day in 2021.) On every day I can recall, even when other spaces are open, there is a work truck parked at that time in this handicap spot which is the very narrowest point on the block. Most drivers will not pass opposing traffic anywhere on this block though they could but at this point you actually cannot fit two cars past a work truck. Parking here makes a big contribution to congestion in the neighborhood.

As I left today, as it turns out, the block was mostly clear (there was one truck, in this spot, on arriving 7:55a) but I'll be happy to keep adding pictures of what I see on coming days.

This probably shouldn't be a parking spot at all but could we at least enforce handicap parking there which would keep the work trucks out of it at rush hour

    Thanks

This type of sewer grate is more bike friendly if slots are perpendicular to travel lane.

This block of bike lane from Ellsworth to Highland on south (EB) side has often been icy for AM commute even when the rest of the lane to Inman Sq is clear. It is shady, runoff from snowbanks in the buffer frequently adds new black ice for AM commute, and it's on a rise with a lot of cross-slope too.

If you have someone out in early cold mornings to salt trouble spots, this would be a good one to visit
