Why is this permitted by the city to exist?
Have they given up on enforcing the law?
Is this how the City Counsil wants to promote our city?
We need to contact the local media to feature this in the news. Maybe shaming them will make them take notice of this disgusting problem.
Wow, I really hope not. There are abandoned buildings, storehouses like CVS that should be converted to shelters. Churches even need to step up instead of expecting people to come to them. The homeless want that to happen. I talk to them. They want a place to live.
And who will pay for this? Who will take on the liability? Residents of Antioch should not have to live in fear and filth because of the behavior of some homeless people. We should help those who have fallen on hard times, but not enable the atrocious behavior that is prevalent all over Antioch.
I know of a very wealthy man who was trying to pay someone 20 million to buy Kmart and run it but the city never called him back.the city is just trying to push the homeless unber the rug in hopes for the problem to go away , not gonna happen . This has been a problem for well over 30 years but now the homeless commute has grown so big that people are just now noticing . I've actually have a few ideas for a homeless camp/shelter that helps provide the homeless
With different option to get back on there feet and back into the community . Mintal Heath is the first and most important problem the drugs and also money/jobs . We can't push the promblem away so let help them and see where that goes.. couldn't get any worse right
Really? Is he still willing to donate something? I have ideas too that can be implemented now before the problem gets out of hand. All we need is an investor to secure a building and other facilities that can be rented. Maybe we can share our ideas with this person you know. I think starting with a place to stay off the streets is important for now. If you like, I will send you my email.
Nicole Katrones, I'm fine with housing the homeless and giving them the necessary services....as long as the state pays for it, and they are housed far away from my neighborhood.
Um, We don't practice canabalism..Lol- No. We will not feed the hungry etc. Anyway with EBT we do not need to feed them. This cuts out some costs.(I have a plan) But the issue is not necessarly getting the State to pay, its getting started. We have resources available already for our use. We just need a building to start from. Someone familiar with grant writing can look for additional funds once we get a vacant building. Its time for "the people" to do what our leaders aren't. Churches can even sponsor people by taking some of them off the streets, placing them in motels, but they don't. Offerings supposed to assist the poor and needy. Agree?
Neil Lopez, you should take back that statement. Its painful. Unless you meet these people you should reserve comments like that. I talk to them, I pass out info to help them and offer my prayers. They are our brothers and sisters who lost their way. Drugs/Alcohol is a strong powerful addiction to conquered for those encumbered. I believe any person can be redeemed with help. In fact, if we do not help them who will?
Wow. I just had content blocked for some un apparent reason. Who knows. Why is our freedom of speech hindered. Real answers will never be shared on this platform, this is not the place to be.
I have reached out to city members and they said that there is nothing they can do, this is the new normal. We should all contact KPIX We Investigate and only then will they do a report and show it on TV. That's what I been told. How many of you will do it with me?
Nando I'm in. That's just the poor excuse of city counsel that doesn't want to do anything since they gave themselves their 70%raise increase for the holidays. Count me in. Ktvu also should be contacted.
Call (888) 877-7267 and complain. It’s the railroads number. I call constantly. These animals need to be hauled off with their trash and filth. Lots of us are trying to clean up Antioch not enable druggies putting them before everyone else. The majority of this town doesn’t deserve to look at these people’s poor choices. My children don’t either. The last thing we need is a shelter to attract more of them. The “clean” druggies get their fix enabling them.
Has anyone noticed this was reported on Nov 21 and is still open but nothing has been done and the trash camp is just turning into its own trash town getting bigger by the minute. Every night you see several small fires all along the tracks and the code enforcement does nothing. The area does belong to the railroad but the railroad is in our city so they can respond to this faster than the railroad authority. The city won't do crap about it until our houses burn down or these homeless attack one of us for trying to defend our property because the code enforcement won't do their job. They always start by spending money on surveys and bull crap instead of a bull dozier and clean them up!
Wow, just look at the dates these comments were made, 12-05-2019 was the last one. This was cleaned up since then. But, it's back again as of today 4-8-2020. No doubt it's going to grow and for two reasons. The railroad has miles of track they are responsible for throughout the state and country. Unfortunately, this isn't a priority for them. I'm not making excuses for them but that's reality. The City maintains it's not their property. So, what happens, no one cleans it up or rousts the homeless so the camps grow. The city can clean it up but it costs money so they do nothing and the citizens suffer. I see lots of ideas in this thread, many are commendable but. We have to realize that for many, MANY of these people this is a lifestyle, they don't want to move into housing, get jobs or have to obey rules that go along with the help. I have spent hours driving around our neighboring cities including Bay Point, as recent as yesterday in fact. In none of them do you see homeless in their down towns, camped on sidewalks, tent cities (with the exception of three tents in Pittsburg a field well off the road way and very hard to see) and none near businesses or restaurants. This begs the question, why? A couple of reasons. One they don't allow it and two they don't encourage homeless activity. Antioch puts porta-potties all over downtown, allows the County to bring in mobile clinics, allow churches to minister in large visible areas, allows someone, and not from Antioch to provide portable showers, stores homeless belongings in storage containers until they can retrieve them etc. These decisions and direction to our departments start at the top folks. Lastly, this is not the forum for these conversations. I believe the City should have open forums like the Quality of Life forums they used to. Hope this doesn't get take down. Just one guy's opinion. TBD
It's growing folks. As of today, 4-24-2020 there are 5, FIVE tents. If the City doesn't want to clear it out and the railroad is non-responsive then the City should hire a contractor and get it done. The Council spent a considerable amount of money on a campaign to improve Antioch's image, well this can't hurt. TBA
I going to post this on every request to deal with VAGRANTS in our community. Sorry if it is repetitious but I'm hoping the Council will see just one.
Ladies and gentleman of our City Council, it is obvious from all the requests to clean/clear out homeless encampments that the City has elected to ignore citizens requests. It's unknown if any of our elected representatives even look at SeeClickFix but if they do, it's time that one or all come out with a public statement or policy statement as to why nothing is being done to rid our community of the vagrants and resulting filth that accompanies them. Taxpayers have a right to know what their representatives are thinking and doing. As I have said before, SeeClickFix is not the forum to address this issue. However, since emails to Council are ignored I as a taxpayer and concerned citizen of Antioch see no alternative. Thank you SeeClickFix for allowing this comment to be posted. TBA
What we need to do is what the citizens and business owners in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco have started a Law suit against the city. We the businesses and neighbors that live here near A & 18th streets eed to file a Law suit against the city of Antioch to get they're attention that we want action

To all,
I have contacted KRON 4 news to reach out to me and do an investigation. I told them that I would be happy to be on camera. I really hope that they do come through and if any of you would like to participate when the time comes, just let me know and I will reach out. This is our city and we should not have to deal with it. I am ready to shame our city leaders and specially Lamar Thorpe who is the homeless advocate.
To all,
I have also contacted FOX KTVU channel 2 news for their help as well. Let's hope they do come through and shame our leaders for not doing their job
CITIZEN ELECT, why do you want me to take back the right I have to freedom of speech? I see you're one of those bleeding-heart libs, but not everybody is into that kind of thinking.
Antioch is turning into a slum. Businesses are closing, fires are being caused by these vagrants, stores are being victimized by the homeless who constantly shoplift, and drug dealing is everywhere. If you want to coddle these "down-trodden" folks, do it with your own time and money.
Just spoke with a second real estate agent friend in our area. She related that when people think of relocating in East County the first thing out of their mouths is "don't show me anything in Antioch". There you have it folks, Antioch's image precedes it. After our city spent nearly 1 million dollars to improve our image it looks like it was a failure to me. This is a direct result of the lack of leadership in our community and the influence of both outside and local advocates for their special programs and causes. Our Council needs to grow some and take a stand, one that benefits Antioch and is good for the community at large. Sorry if I offend anyone but I am not willing to see Antioch go down the tubes. Antioch does not need to be the homeless hub for East County. If you listen to advocates and three members of our Council that is exactly what they want. It's time to stand up and say no thanks. Email your Council members, and often to express your opinions about what is going on in Antioch. You can find their addresses on the City's Website or call the City Clerk. TBA
It seems we here, who love our city, are being opposed by lovers of the homeless, vagrants, drug addicts, and mental cases....and their setting up their camps anywhere they want. I guess they don't care if Antioch is turning into a big slum.
Just spoke to a City Official and he stated his hands are tied. I believe him. I also believe the Police Departments hands are tied by one, direction from the Governor and two our FECKLESS Council. I get more upset every time we go out in our Community and see the crap that the Council allows. I'll give you a couple examples. There is a grey Dodge van in the parking lot by the entrance to the Riverview. The tags on the vehicle are 2017, EXPIRED. I have turned this in before and it's still on our streets. Would I or anyone else get away with this? Absolutely not. Second, there are vagrants living in RV's at the end of Viera Ave. I asked about the gate that's supposed to be locked and was told "they keep cutting it." OK, keep locking it, "oh that's Public Works." Can you move the trailers out? "No that's PD." Doesn't it violate the 72-hour parking on the street without being moved Municipal Code Statute, I would get cited for it? Shoulder shrug. So, there you have it folks. I’ve said it before, a fish dies from the head and that head is our Council. You can only do so much finger pointing before people catch on. Enough, do the job you were elected to do or step down. TBA
Nando, I also am willing to stand beside you with shaming this counsel. Enough is enough. I have also stated that I wanted to be involved in the class action law suit against the Mayor and counsel members. Other citizens in other cities have started law suits against the city counsel for homeless problems, we can too.
I asked a councilman for information on the expenditure of funds for the Opportunity Lives Here campaign which also went to the City Manager. Specifically, how much in total was expended and what were the outcomes, staff report on success or failure. That was in early March. Nothing yet. Not exactly what I would expect. TBA
Antioch is turning in to a dump because the Police and Code Enforcement are NOT doing their jobs! We keep voting in new taxes for them and they keep misusing it and still do NOT do their jobs! It's time we took back our city and called every darn elected official in this city, this county, and this state. Sue the city of Antioch for failing to protect us and our property value, while they continue to give away free services to homeless while tax payers get the finger. STOP electing the same politicians year after year who have put us in this situation. Enough is enough, all we want is for them to DO THEIR JOBS!!
I see that a couple posts suggest contacting a local news agency to do a story about the homeless situation in Antioch and lack of attention by our FECKLESS council. Well, it doesn't look like the media wants to cover the story. Unfortunately I understand why. They wouldn't be able to get many or any responses from our local leaders, especially since there isn't a place where they are meeting given the epidemic. That's going to go away when they start holding open meetings again. At that point, we the citizens that take the time to post on SeeClickFix need to attend one of these meetings, notify local media that there will be a protest outside the chambers, make our signs and hopefully get the attention this issue deserves. Then and only then will out FECKLESS council be front and center and begin to be held accountable for their inaction, MAYBE. Just one guy's opinion. TBA
