My comments are helpful because they point out this was not handled properly.
Talk to anyone in law enforcement and they will tell you what you did could encourage thief. If this was your bike would you want it handled this way.? By the time you saw the post someone can come and take it.
Even if it was a stolen bike by posting a picture for everyone to see may result in a dishonest person going to the location where the bike is and taking it. You posted the bike was gone, do you know what happen to it?
When I found something of value this year I called the police and they came to my house and took it Because no one claimed it after six months it was mine. I also posted here but I did not show a picture of it and give the location where it was found
Next time I see Chief Campbell I should ask him if what you did was correct and how many police view this site. Posting a picture of something that was lost or stolen and asking people to be on the lookout for it is a different story. By posting a picture of an item with its location and leaving it there may cause the wrong person to go and retrieve it. What is so hard to understand about this . I think every first Tuesday people can go talk to the mayor, it would interesting to see how she feels about this and how people are using this

Would you or anyone else like the way this was handle if this was your bike? Yes, you may have had liked it when you first saw the post but it would be a different story when you went to get it and it wasn't there. You could have taken a photo and posted it was at the police station's lost and found department. You shouldn't have just left it there. I know you want people to use your site but in the long run it would be better if done correctly
Yes. I literally did this with my own bike and then someone posted similar when they found it. Three years later the same Officer who found it remarks at how proud he is that he spotted it from the site. I’d do it again 100 times. Non emergency PD call center has demonstrated that they do not have bandwidth for these types of calls. This is the proper the channel.
You are missing the point, it is fine if someone is missing something to post here with a picture and ask if someone has seen it. It also alright to post a bike was found . What was done wrong was you posted a picture of the bike, mention where it was, and left it there for anybody to go and take it. You should have called the police and they would have come and get it. They did this when I found something
Very few people would go to the police station and try and claim it if they were not the rightful owner especially if they did not know what it looked like. If you do not agree with me take these posts and show them to someone in law enforcement and ask them what they think. This site can be a good tool but it has to be used correctly like any other tool.

If you found a wallet or pocketbook would you leave them , take a picture, post, and tell everybody the location
