I do not work for the city but it just needs to be cleaned and cut I can try to help out. I can be there 7/23/2018 from 6:15p-7:15p if anyone else would like to assist in the cleaning up. What exactly does it need so I know what to bring?
Good morning SmokedNeckbones!! Yes, that would be wonderful! The long strip near the train tracks really needs some help. It's filled with litter and bulk debris, not to mention tall weeds. If it doesn't rain, tonight will be a great time to do it.
Once you bag the trash in a plastic bag, and bag the vegetation in a paper bag, bring all bags to the corner of Walnut and East Street. I'll have the Department of Public Works pick it up.
This area has been a dumping ground for years. Years ago people in the area tried to clean & plant flowers in raised beds. Unfortunately I have had a stroke & can no longer clean up the area. My spouse who has died used to go over every week to pick up trash. It is heartening to see someone who seems to care for these long neglected spots. Thank you for your efforts. I am hoping others that are more physically fit than I am join you in your efforts. I have always thought cameras placed strategically might catch some of these perps.
I am very sorry that you suffered a stroke. I pray that you will continue healing.
I've been keeping on eye on this area for a while now. In the past, Public Works has helped me, however, we never set up a maintenance schedule. This this around, I got a real angel, SmokedNeckbones, who is willing to be helpful and whip some abandoned areas into shape. He's been a Godsend to me. A shout out and a thanks to you, Angelika, for always caring about New Haven.
Thank you for your words of encouragement. You are doing the right thing for yourself & the community. I grew up in a time when Civics was taught in the schools. This is how this country started. Many people coming here for freedom & the ability to start a new life. Everyone no matter how busy or important to the community pitched in to do the things that the community needed to be done for the benefit of everyone. Remember it never costs anyone anything to say thank you. It might make that person's day. So in gratitude I say Thank you to you & all your efforts. I hope others who read this will join you in your efforts.
Good morning SmokedNeckbones!! I'm really glad that you found the space I was referring to; it definitely needs to be cleaned and cut. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you.
Can you have someone pick uo the leaf bag Monday? I left a bag tied to the fence with the intent of people placing their trash in it. I met a neighbor who might be able to help maintain the area. I think long as a constant pressence is there. They will be inclined to help
I spend hrs raking, cutting, cleaning and the city can't take 5 mins to pick up the leaf bag? You gotta help me out if you want me to help you. The leaf bag I left last week is still there
I find it completely irresponsible that no one can coordinate a trash pickup from the city, when a citizen who has volunteered to do the heavy lifting of trying to clean up a huge eyesore in the city on his own time. It makes your department look a bunch of slackers. Shame on you.
Sorry folks - If issue had been categorized correctly at the beginning, no doubt we at dpw would have seen it. As for picking up a leaf bag or two if its on a regularly scheduled trash route, it would have been picked up. If it's not on a regularly scheduled Trash route, and we were not aware of it, then it will sit. Next time if it is a special clean up ie. neighborhood clean up or along public space, best thing to do is call for that special pick up at 203-946-7700.
We had someone from LCI monitor this issue and they were aware of it, so I was under the impression that they would have someone pick it up. When is the normal pick up day for this street, so I know to come the day before to bag up the trash and clippings when I cut it? Thanks for the follow up. I left a Christmas Tree leaf bag along the fence the last time I was out there cleaning up on August the 18th, 2018
Hello SmokedNeckBones . I reported Mill River Street a couple of days ago. I asked that they pick up the trash and that ,in general, it needed a deep cleaning. I'm still waiting for DPW's response.
Morning! Not sure about "deep cleaning" but if you are talking about residential pick up of trash and recycling we do that normally on Thursdays as Angelika noted. BUT yours is a special volunteer clean up Smoked Bones and in order for Public Works to know and respond, you only have to give us a call at 203-946-7700 and we have to send an additional truck (like our neighborhood clean ups) to pick up your leaf bags. Our residential trash pick up is on the tree belt in front of residences only. After all your work Smoked Neckbones we want to make sure we don't leave your bags hanging. Thanks!
Same here, last time I was there I met one of the neighbors who was grateful for the help. If anything I can return tomorrow and see if they would not mind if I put the leaf bag next to their bins for pickup Thursday
Leaf bag picked up. Issue closed. If you need to report another issue please submit to See Click Fix or call Department of Public Works at (203) 946 - 7700. Thanks.
