215 Bishop Street. Loud building noises all day. Don't see a building permit for the construction that's going on to the deck and the roof.

To NSNH -- I'm the guilty party who wrote "Butt out." While inelegant, I wouldn't say it was inappropriate, or (!) smutty. (And what precisely do you mean by "unpolished"? I don't understand, but then I didn't go to Miss Porter's.)
What I wrote was an honest knee-jerk reaction to neighbor-tattletaling-on-neighbor, which immediately made me think of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union during bad times when neighbors and relatives were encouraged to rat on each other. Yes, let's call in the "New Haven Permit Police" so they can fine the home-improvement guy who neglected to pay the big fee to get a simple home-improvement project done! I'm pretty sure that someone from the New Haven govt -- always alert to a chance to find the low-hanging fruit to add to the city's coffers -- immediately focused their laser gaze on that poor deluded home-improvement guy whose actual home address was revealed for all the world to see. Thanks to the tattle-taler!
Also: I've done plenty of renovations on my New Haven properties, many renovations of which required permits, and I can't recall ever having been required to publicly post any permit. (But maybe I missed the requirement because, rather than reading the fine print, I was too busy getting rid of asbestos or lead in my antique houses so no one would be poisoned or killed.)
But back to the essence: I apologize for being unpolished, inappropriate, and smutty. I promise to try to muzzle myself in the future when confronted with notices from buttinskis who, in the guise of "report" and "fix," are basically ratting on their neighbors who are simply trying to improve their homes--ergo, our community.

This is an old issue that was incorrectly categorized. The Building Department would have inspected this location while there was work going on.
In the future the Building Department can be reached at 203.946.8045.
