I agree. This is really dangerous. I have seen many near misses, myself. It's particularly dangerous because of so many cyclists and hikers here. I'm not sure why English Drive doesn't have to stop. I also agree that cars go way too fast on English headed west, and that a stop sign would slow them down. I hope that The Sign Division will consider a stop sign instead of an "oncoming traffic does not stop" sign. Let's help provide quiet, safe enjoyment of our beautiful parks -- for all!

This does seem odd that there is no stop sign for the traffic on Farnam/English. I wonder how it hasn't led to an accident yet.

Requesting a stop sign is a process, involving several different stages in order to determine if the location being requested is warranted. The first step in the process would be to present a request to your Alderperson. He or she will review the information and follow up by contacting the Transportation, Traffic and Parking Department. Once the request is received by the department, staff will review the request and determine its viability based on guidelines given to us in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, issued by the Federal Highway Administration. Intersections must meet federal criteria in order to install a stop sign. If the warrant reveals the criteria is met, the department will submit a final recommendation to the Traffic Authority for approval and installation. This process can take anywhere from 2 to 6 months. Thank you for your concern in this matter.

Is is the same process to request a warning (re: traffic from right) sign?

I have received many complaints about this intersection over the years. Because it is a three way intersection and one way has no stop, it is confusing for those lanes of traffic that do have to stop and creates a dangerous driving situation. A similar situation exists at two other intersections of the park: at English and View St and at Farnum and East Rock Road. Until the issue is addressed I don't think it should be closed. Ultimately I think the solution is to either put in another stop sign or at a minimum put a sign up at the other intersections saying that traffic from the other lane does not stop.

i completely agree, justin. this stretch is a dangerous one whenever i am walking or biking.
