I moved to Lincoln and Bay st from a different part of West Alameda about 6 months ago and since I’ve been here there have been quite a few accidents. I’d say at least 5. We typically hear screeching then a loud thud, it is very alarming that nothing is being done yet. The worst time was when a pedestrian was hit and flew about 5 feet in the air from a cross walk. Upon the ambulance and fire department coming , the fireman told me that I really should contact to city to see if there are any plans for this area ? because peoplee tend to speed down the street since there are no stop signs or lights for a while. This is simply an unsafe area and it is concerning how many accidents there are in the same location. Many neighbors like to frequent Island savoy market etc and support the local businesses here but can not cross the street in fear they will be injured, I myself have been almost hit quite a few times and have seen kids almost get hit daily, Please let me know if , what there’s anything I can do ?

Thank you for reporting your concerns about street safety in Alameda. In April 2023, the City Council endorsed a design concept for the Lincoln/Marshall/Pacific Avenue Safety Improvement Project, which will include major improvements for three miles of this high injury corridor from Alameda Point at Pacific/Central/Main to the East End at Lincoln/Broadway. This concept includes design changes that are proven to reduce speeds and improve pedestrian safety at crossings. The City/consultant team has completed 25 percent design drawings and submitted a grant application for $20 million to fund the corridor improvements. Your report will help inform the City of Alameda’s work to achieve our Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries. Staff will retain your report and refer to it the next time we undertake a project on this street, whether it is pavement resurfacing or a corridor update. For selection of new safety improvement projects, the City refers to High Injury Corridors, equity indicators, Active Transportation Plan projects, and street resurfacing needs, augmented by Street Safety Concerns.
