Why doesn't the school work with the parent population on this issue? Why is there not a school employee helping load kids into the cars to make the process faster and safer?

1) the principal refused to engage w the city or parents on safe streets initiatives
2) there was an employee who would keep some areas, including bus area clear, but you can look up what horrible things he did to get locked up
3) curb extensions are easy to add especially when the city is already tearing up the curb
4) we shouldn’t rely on manual labor when low cost engineering solutions exist

A curb extension to me does not gain the advantages of a school employee helping to manage the process. I have been at schools where this is done, and it is very helpful. Frankly, every school in Jersey City should be made to do this.

It’s not either or, but one of them can be addressed by the city and the other can’t since it’s a school board issue. The extensions are a city matter. The city can also close streets around the w school at drop off and pickup times but they don’t.

School crossing guards are assigned by the Department of Public Safety.

While you may not think they needed to be redone, precision instruments were used by trained engineers to make the determination as mandated by federal law. No one, not even an engineer, could eyeball the curb and say it already met standards.
