Good Morning, I appreciate your concerns with the traffic signals. Our crew works diligently every day to ensure that pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists are serviced and protected. Often we rely on citizen reports to identify failures. One area of concern that you mention is the ped signals set to automatic, which may or may not have buttons. Some of these are set to automatic by time of day depending on the neighborhood's demographic for specific holidays or religious needs. Some of our automatic signals are set due to the high demand of the pedestrian population. When a button is reported as non-responsive, we send crews out to repair it. We have a traffic signal system where the corridors are coordinated. This can lead to frustration at one intersection where the light may stay red longer while there is no apparent demand however it is determined by timing with the set of intersections working together.
