SPEED BUMPS. I am aware that many of my neighbors including myself have been petitioning to get speed bumps on Mill Rock Rd. from Prospect all the way down to Newhall Street. The cars drive way too fast and someone is going to get run over or terribly injured. Children walk to the playground and cars go way too fast and also like to race. This is extremely dangerous. The stop signs near the playground are not even monitored at all. How is this safe?

Hell Mr. Cleansure,
Currently, it appears requests for speed humps have been suspended. Here's the news from our town's Traffic Authority:
***At this time speed hump requests have been suspended. This is due to multiple requests to have existing approved speed humps removed. Therefore, we are in the process of creating a speed hump removal policy, as well as, revamping the current speed hump installation policy. We are currently working with the Town Attorney on this matter. Thank you for your patience. ***
You can also see it on our town's Traffic Authority's webpage:

I hope this information helps.

Hello Leicadave,
You have a very good question. I have a few questions for you.
1) Are you sure you want speed bumps on your street?
2) Do you know why there are many residents requesting to have speed bumps removed?
What could possibly be wrong with having speed bumps on your street? That's a question most people didn't ask themselves before requesting speed bumps and getting all the required signatures on their petitions for those speed bumps.
Well, it turns out there is a remarkable increase in air pollution caused by vehicles when they accelerate after rolling over a speed bump. That's not my reason for hating them.
Our streets are also used by our emergency vehicles; i.e., ambulances, fire engines, and police cars. Speed bumps delay their response time.
Here's why I hate speed bumps:
Speed bumps were installed on my street several years ago. At first, I was thrilled. There was no more speeding. Everything was great... until I realized I was never again going to be able to sleep through the night. When certain vehicles drive over speed bumps, it's NOISY.
Many utility companies are in business 24 hours a day. Every utility company has utility trucks. Every utility truck contains metal tools.
When utility trucks drive over speed bumps, there is a loud metallic crashing sound that can be heard throughout the neighborhood. I live more than 300 feet from the nearest speed bump, and I'm still awakened by those crashing sounds.
I can only imagine how horrible it must be for people who live closer to the speed bumps than I do.
I hope this information helps.
