Subject: drain corner of Smith and William st

There is a problem with the drain Corner of Smith and Willams St. The water stands for hours after a rain. It needs to be cleaned out. You have forwarded my emails several times to the correct office but nothing has been done. Can you get this drain cleaned? Actually there are several drains in the neighborhood that need to be cleaned.

  • 1629 Smith St Ypsilanti, Michigan, 48198 - Washtenaw County
With the several recent heavy rains, the intersection at Smith & Shelly becomes submerged. Last night & this morning, the pooled water was over the curbs, and was well up into the lawns near the intersection. At least one neighbor we've spoken with had the same result we did, namely with all the hydraulic pressure and no place to go, our basement were severely flooded. This issue MUST be resolved, and promptly. Whomever is legally responsible (township, county, other) faces liability for the damages er suffer caused by this bad situation. The WCRC & Township have been put on notice re this problem repeatedly since shortly after we purchased our home a few years ago.

  • Flooding Archived
Smith St & Shelly St Ypsilanti, MI, 48198, USA - Washtenaw County
Recurring flooding in area. Every moderate or heavy rain, Smith Street near Shelly is covered with water, despite drain cleaning. There is no curb and no drainage on east side of roadway, and insufficient draining on west side of the road. This results in water over the roadway (up to 4-5" of standing water frequently) and basement flooding in several houses on Smith. We have had Road Comm'n out twice recently (including today), and the consensus was that this is an engineering problem. Apparently there was legal action regarding a related problem a few years ago when the drains backed up, with homeowners being reimbursed for destroyed basements, but to date no real solution to the underlying lack of adequate drainage has been provided. The hydrostatic pressure builds with the lack of drainage until water seeps into basements. We are tired of wet basements. So, as we have received no clear direction as to who the responsible agency is, please share this with all the proper authorities and solve this issue!
Drain commission states they do not have any storm drain infrastructure in this area.
