The newly installed parking spy camera on the sidewalk has bit the dust and is now a safety hazard littering the sidewalk. I assume this was installed to automatically ticket folks that park in front of the fire hydrant but it was upright for about a week and is now a blight in front of a cherished local business. I take issue with the fact that it was installed without public announcement and there is no visible sign posted to warn people of its presence. How much did this garbage cost taxpayers? I've noticed one other on State Street.

149 Greenwich Ave New Haven, CT, 06519, USA - City Point
New sidewalks were installed on Greenwich Ave last fall and the contractor left a storage container and big pile of lumber debris at the end of Greenwich Ave. It has been there for about 6 months.
  • 6th St & Greenwich Ave New Haven, CT, 06519, USA - City Point
The small and quiet streets of Greenwich Ave and 6th St have become a cut through between exit 44 and Long Wharf with cars speeding both ways at all times of day (like peddle to the floor between turns!). This street has families with children, dog walkers, and bicyclists and the excessive speeds of the cut-through cars are a real safety hazard. These streets and the neighborhood would benefit greatly from a few speed humps before there's a tragedy. The recent traffic calming measures (round-about and speed humps) on Sea Street have helped quite a bit and I suspect the reckless drivers are bypassing the speed humps by using Greenwich.
  • 137 Water St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Wooster Square
After repaving a section of Water St (great job!), the contractor left a large pile of asphalt on the side of the road. All heavy equipment has been taken away.
  • 83 Rogers Rd Hamden, CT 06517, USA - Hamden
Small ponds are forming in the enormous potholes at the entrance to East Rock park. Dangerous and barely navigable, only about half the lane could still be considered a street.

351 Long Wharf Dr New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Long Wharf

The Parks Department does a great job cleaning up after the food truck litter daily, but every morning a truck is parked in the bike lane blocking it in both directions. Please park in a different spot so bicyclists have a clear and safe travel path. (The parking lot, driveway, parallel spots are all great alternatives!)

Also, there should be some walking cops on litter patrol ticketing folks during peak food truck hours. There are plenty of waste bins around, but the place is trashed daily!

  • 121 Greenwich Ave New Haven, CT, 06519, USA - City Point
Asphalt sidewalks are crumbling and dangerous. Most of the sidewalks on Greenwich are half mud with broken asphalt. This beautiful historic district deserves better!
  • 656 Washington Avenue New Haven Connecticut - Hill
Bus stop shelter missing windows with broken glass all over the sidewalk for weeks. The Hill neighborhood has been overlooked and neglected by our city. Please repair the shelter and clean up the glass.
  • 656 Washington Avenue New Haven Connecticut - Hill
Bus shelter windows broken. There has been one broken pane for years. Now there's another with freshly broken glass.
  • 55 Church St New Haven, Connecticut - Town_Green
Bus Stops should be cleared of snow and ice immediately. This is a public safety issue- where are the Downtown Ambassadors? So many who use the bus system are elderly and are at risk of serious injury attempting to navigate the ice sheets and snow piles. I don't know how a person in a wheelchair would board the bus in the photo.
  • 228 College St New Haven, Connecticut - Town_Green
I love tables and chairs in front of restaurants and cafes. Sidewalk seating does so much to activate the street and allows the enjoyment of this beautiful season. However, Oaxaca has virtually take over the entire sidewalk leaving only a tiny sliver for pedestrians. Let's suck it in a bit, shall we?
  • 216-240 Crown Street New Haven, Connecticut - Town_Green
At the COOP high school on Crown St, buses routinely block the sidewalk forcing pedestrians into the street. Dangerous, illegal, and an accident/lawsuit waiting to happen.
  • 698-728 Washington Ave New Haven, CT - Hill

After moving to the neighborhood, I noticed this missing facade element and assumed that repair/maintenance work was underway. After 4 months, I realize that is not the case and whatever reason, the Truman School has been missing this medallion leaving the building envelope exposed to weather and animals. Currently birds fly freely in and out of the wall structure. Come on Board of Ed- let's show some school spirit and get this thing fixed!

(Also, on the wishlist would be a better litter cleaning routine around the exterior of the school. The front always looks pretty nice, but the back of the school- especially the playground- is littered with lots of garbage

the dog at 637 Washington doesn't stop barking and the owners seem ro think this is normal/acceptable. he's kept outside all day and barks at anything that moves. this is a quality of life issue for neighbors in this densely populated area.

If SeeClickFix had a wishlist, this item would go there:

I'm always interested in the City Plan and the Board of Zoning Appeals proceedings. I wish that the transcripts, video, applicant submissions from all meetings were digitally archived, posted, and easily searchable on the City's website.

The New Haven Independent does a great job of reporting on much of the proceedings, but a complete archival database of proceedings would be a truly great resource for New Haveners.

As it currently stands, the City Plan and BZA sites have past and current agendas, but no meeting minutes or other information. An excellent example of the type of fastidious dedication to transparency and information sharing is the Toronto government website, with links to all committees that include agendas, minutes, decisions, and background information on all items up for consideration.

Perhaps the Board of Aldermen should consider raising the issue for consideration of the City's online efficacy.

  • Chapel St New Haven, CT - Downtown
The construction work on the Yale Museum of Art is almost complete. To my dismay, there are no street trees being replanted where there used to be several good-sized trees. Why wouldn't Yale replace the trees they removed? It detracts from the street, sidewalk, and building and exposes the long benches to full sun where it was once so nice to stop in the shade.

on the east bound side of Chapel before the light at Olive a rather large pot hole has formed. (Near Comcast corner)
  • Crown St New Haven, CT - Town_Green
This tiny shack on a sliver of property has been boarded up for the 6 years I've lived here. I've always wonder about the spot and imagined the types of cute little spots for take-out or dessert that could thrive there. It doesn't appear on the tax assessor's grand list. Does anyone have any information on who it belongs to and perhaps why it has been abandoned for so long? If the city owns it, there should be a call for ideas or some type of creative challenge for the great designers in town to chew on! (image taken from Google Street View)
