Descripción

We would like to follow up on an issue we reported last year. On November 2020, we reported that our neighbor, Bill Aboudi, who lives on Georgia St., planted more than a dozen Cypress Trees on a City owned parcel behind our backyard. He claimed that he obtained a permit from the City to plant these trees. Upon your inspection, you determined these trees were planted illegally and were not authorized by the City. Furthermore, because these trees are highly flammable, they are a fire hazard and the location of the planted trees interfere with the maintenance of the fire break the City has created around our property line. You had also stated that he would be asked to remove the trees, otherwise the City will remove them.
Per our last phone conversation with regards to this, you said you had forwarded this case to City Coding and said that they would follow up with the removal of the trees. Fire season has started early and I want to make sure that the removal of these trees will be enforced and are still scheduled. As of today, the trees have remained untouched.
Through the years, my neighbor, Bill, had been planting various plants on City owned and maintained property behind his fence. These includes various fruit trees, bushes, cactuses and shrubs which he alone benefits from. I don’t know if these plants and trees were approved by the City but I expected that only the City can change the landscape of city owned parcel and that any changes made would benefit all the homeowners that pay for the maintenance of the parcel.
We are responsible homeowners and make sure that our property is well maintained which contributes to the overall value of our neighborhood. We are assessed fees and pay for the city maintenance of this open space.
When we bought our home, we were attracted to it because of the open space and the unobstructed view around the property. The trees he planted are not only a fire hazard but they will also grow over 30 feet tall and will obstruct the uninterrupted view we now enjoy around our property. This will affect the future value of our home but also the view we currently enjoy in our backyard .
Thank you for your attention with regards to this matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Please feel free to forward this letter to the appropriate department who can help us resolve this problem.
