There is a (substandard) bike lane on West Peachtree in Midtown, but it could be wider (really should be 6 feet next to on-street parking) and longer (we're trying to get it extended back towards downtown).
Peachtree Street is slated for bike facilities in the Connect Atlanta Plan but there is very limited right of way and space is at a premium on Atlanta's signature street. ABC is going to encourage the city to install sharrows, or shared lane markings, on Peachtree St.
Thank you ABC. I hope Atlanta will consider creating more efficient bike routes through the principal areas of the city, and do it in a timely way. Having routes to key destinations is crucial.
You might think about sending this issue (http://seeclickfix.com/issues/7194) around as a "petition", or even leafletting cyclists or parked bikes in the area, in order to get people to vote on it. That way you can collect the emails and keep those who are most concerned informed about ongoing progress, just by commenting on it here.
There is a (narrow) bike lane on West Peachtree that the city is considering extending and/or widening. But I agree we need better n/s connectors for cyclists.
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue. Please note that Midtown Alliance uses SeeClickFix to manage physical repair issues. Long-term planning issues related to bicycle infrastructure are better addressed by the Transportation Division of the City of Atlanta Office of Planning. I have forwarded your issue along to Joshua Mello, Assistant Director of the Transportation Division who is managing the Cycle Atlanta bicycle planning study. For more information, visit www.cycleatlanta.org.
We're working on a campaign calling for bike facilities on three major ridgeline or railline streets - stay tuned to atlantabike.org for details! In the meantime, we're closing this as it's more a planning issue than question of maintenance. Thanks for your input!
