So all the garbage by the entrance / exit ramps-the overgrown weeds, (not to mention the bottle full of urine-on the exit ramp at E.Main +Bee Street),
the tree branch in the road, the broken traffic sensor- all of those things need LONG term solutions?

The issues regarding the exit ramps were referred on to the State DOT. Those are state properties which the State is supposed to maintain.

I contacted the CT DOT and I was told that this area gets cleaned every 2 weeks. I replied that it has not been done all Summer- and that some of the garbage has been there since Spring. I even volunteered to clean it myself -if someone could provide me with some traffic cops, so I wouldn't get run over.
Well, I am happy to report they FINALLY mowed the area and cleaned up the garbage.(there still is 100's of cigarette butts-but alot less garbage).

When the CTDOT sent me the initial reply they cc'd alot of people- so my response (replied all-of course) helped.

I still believe that I shouldn't have to email everyone to get things done that my taxes should be paying for.

superhero, i think your right they look write down e-mail and forget it. or put off till next year. well the city is going to be really swamped next year.. they say water will be fixed by next year roades done too. drains cleaned lights fixed list can go one and on.. well town of Meriden next year starts January 1st 2011. have fun...

I'm the City Manager of Meriden. All of the posts are sent to me automatically and to the Director of Public Works. Issues that can be taken care of quickly and inexpensively are. Issues that are utility company issues or State issues (like this one) are referred to the appropriate person and we remind them until the issues are addressed. Major repairs or improvements are submitted for funding, prioritized with all the other municipal projects and addressed within the spending limits that are set. Issues for which there is federal or state funding available are addressed when we can obtain those funds, which is usually a long and complex process.
