At the intersection of County Line Rd / Merrick Road, there are several issues: 1. The 2 lanes of Merrick Rd heading east merges into one lane with traffic doing approximately 40-50 mph and everyone trying to be first. 2. The entrance to Erlwein Court is at the bottle neck of this merge which is difficult to navigate at the least. 3. There is a center turning lane with 2 turns north & 1 turn south, which people use to get around the merging traffic causing seriously dangerous conditions and potential for head on collisions. 3. There is a fair amount of pedestrian traffic at this intersection at any given time or day. 4. A developer is proposing 16 apartments and 4 retail stores at this intersection which will accommodate 62 cars. As per the developer, Nassau County has approved this proposal. The neighbors are dumbfounded and infuriated this proposal would even be considered, never mind approved. This will have a massive negative impact on traffic and pedestrian safety, congestion, pollution and noise. We live in Nassau because we don't want to live in Queens. This proposal should be revisited immediately and real time conditions reviewed in detail. This proposal should be rejected for the safety and the well being of all.
