The overpass from MacArthur as it turns into Lake Park, traveling over 580 to Lakeshore, has an ugly little hazard where the black top of MacArthur meets the concrete of the overpass. It is a one to two inch tall concrete 'curb' that hammers every car that comes across the overpass.
There are literally hundreds, perhaps thousands, of cars and buses per day that use this roadway, and the only way to avoid the jarring hammering of your axles is to slow to between 2 and 4 mph and creep over this hurdle.
There is a similar situation on the uphill/reverse direction of this, but it is not quite as acute.
Several years ago there was a very modest bandaid applied to this situation, but, it really needs to be addressed much more completely. We have seen drivers go into the oncoming lane in an effort to avoid the worst of this little concrete curb.
Please solve this small, but dangerous, situation. Patch our overpass.

Caltrans says that this problem is the city of Oakland's responsibility, according to the
1963 maintenance agreement between city of Oakland and Caltrans
The city will maintain the top of concrete deck and all pavement connecting to the bridge.
Caltrans maintains the lower part of the deck.
If the problem were due to the deck rising, than it would be the responsibility of the city of Oakland. That is unlikely.

The 3-year paving plan does show Lake Park Avenue as being paved, but it isn't clear that this includes the interface to the bridge. I'm involved with a Glenview group discussing this paving plan, and have this bridge as a question for DOT. Hoping to get an answer.
Lake Park is rated 35 out of 100 pavement condition index. That's bad in the real world, so-so for Oakland.
We need a short term fix before the paving happens.

Lake Park is due to be paved in 2019, I just heard.
AC Transit, on the other hand, doesn't want to get involved. (I just called them). I still filed a complaint.
Just as Bike East Bay has a list of 10 potholes a month which they ask to get filled, AC Transit should have this ability.

Another much needed improvement, we asked for, is a STOP SIGN, at Alma and MacAthur. Please sign that, we need to slow down the fools who tear thru our neighborhood. They are a danger to all.
