There is a left turn arrow coming from New Cortland heading toward I-787. from I-787 at the end, you are not supposed to turn left from there. There is only the BK and the church on that section of Saratoga St. and you should use Ontario St to access those, there is an access road that is a right turn from Ontario St just past the gas station.
If you are trying to turn left off Saratoga, heading north, onto New Cortland, again, use Ontario St, over the railroad tracks, turn right onto Mohawk St, then at the end there is a traffic light to allow you to safely get onto New Cortland St.
Actually, if you are coming north on Saratoga St, you should get on to I-787 as soon as you can, so you can go straight at the end of I-787. Ontario St take a right, and then a left onto I-787 at that light.
You were not clear which street you were coming from, so I have listed all the possibilities
I agree, this is a very congested intersection. There was supposed to be the Rt 32 bypass and I-787 was supposed to be a highway that went over New Cortland and N Mohawk, and followed the river and had an interchange at Route 9 and then reconnected to I-87 just south of the twins.
If you look at the original plans, you will see both of these were in the plans, but due to lack of funds, they were both scrapped, and this intersection is the end result.
A freeway dumping traffic that is bound for northern saratoga county trying to get there on surface streets.
If you think things are bad now, just wait till they start work on the new bridge.
