Descripción

At 3:05 AM, March 24th, 2016, a New Haven Public Utilities rotary brush street sweeper hooked up to the fire hydrant on Wooster Place at the corner with Chapel Street. It noisily filled its tank, then backed up onto Chapel Street and proceeded to sweep noisily up and down Chapel, down Wooster Place, Greene, Academy, DePalma Court, Wooster Street and back again until after 4:00 AM. The sidewalk where the fire hydrant is located was broken, a large brick-shaped shard was lifted, and water spewed up from under the sidewalk, leaving a fan of mud and stones on the sidewalk. The tire-marks of the sweeper show its perilously close passage to the curb. We are concerned that there is damage under the sidewalk to the pipes, and that a leak will develop or return if and when the hydrant is used. The sidewalk is now dangerous for travel. We have a prominent funeral home on Wooster Place, and much foot traffic up and down Wooster Place, many of the walkers are people of advanced age, and the broken sidewalk is dangerous to them. Please fix this. Thank you.
