A new sidewalk was recently installed along the east side of Altman, but there are still no speed limit signs in either direction.

Talked with traffic enforcement officer re: Altman Rd. He said the police do not know what the speed limit is, either. Said the street divides two municipalities, and there is no consensus as to what the speed limit should be.

Radar cop parked on shoulder of northbound Altman said speed limit could be 25, 35, or 45; he doesn't know.

This issue has been open since 2011, and excessive speed remains a hazard to pedestrians and bicyclists on this street. Drivers are not sure what the speed limit is.

Situation remains. Traffic has been increasing due to new gas station at 23 mile and Altman.

The issue is still open. No speed limit signs and no signal light at Altman and 23 Mile Road. There was recently a collision at that intersection.

Asked a Michigan State Police officer about the speed limit on Altman. He said that, technically, the speed limit is 55 mph. However, he concurred with me that--because of residential and commercial development--that does not seem proper. He said that the street is the dividing line between New Baltimore and Chesterfield.

Still no speed limit signs. Traffic on Altman has increased greatly in the seven years since this issue was initiated. As of May 2019, traffic on 23 mile road has increased suddenly due to the closing of Jefferson at Sugarbush Rd for rebuilding of the bridge over the Salt River. People waiting at Altman for traffic to clear are faced with long waits in order to get on to 23 mile road, which increases the likelihood of a collision. Entering 23 Mile Road from Altman is made even more difficult by traffic attempting to make a left turn onto Altman from 23 Mile Road. Jefferson is expected to be closed for several months. If, for some reason, a permanent signal light cannot be installed at the intersection of 23 Mile and Altman, a temporary signal light should be installed until Jefferson is reopened.

Bridge over Salt River is completed. People take Jefferson to Altman to 23 Mile Road. Traffic has increased again. Still no speed limit signs on Altman in either direction.
