There is constant illegal parking on the 300 block of W 26th St (south side of street) Per city ordinances the street is too narrow to have parking on the street (there is no shoulder simply an immediate drop off into a ditch) The street is at most 19 ft wide Traffic is often completely blocked on this block and it is NEVER possible for two directional traffic This is a dangerous situation and it’s getting worse as what little pavement there is continues to crumble into the ditch The apartment complex there has a huge parking garage with ample parking for all residents and guests This particular section of W 26th is just too narrow to allow parking (as city code states) Emergency vehicles cannot pass through this area , residents can't get out of their own driveways, and vehicles are constantly driving through yards on the other side of the street COH needs to enforce its own laws and put NO PARKING signs up along this stretch (and enforce that to make drivers aware parking is already illegal there) If theapartment developer wishes to have parking on the south side of the street, they need to provide off street parking space not in the middle of the streets Those aren't available there and the street is impassable on nights and weekends i ,d

No Parking Signs: 3.Investigation completed on 04/03/24 at 300 W. 26th St in reference to No Parking restrictions. The requestor did not provide any phone number so a message was left via email. It was determined that W. 26th St doesn't meet the requirements for No Parking signs. W. 26th St measured at 21' (effective width) with useable shoulder. Per the Houston Code of Ordinances Chapter45, Sec.45-117: if the street has two way traffic operation and the effective width is equal to or greater than 20 feet, but less than 26 feet, one side of the street should be restricted for parking at all times. There were no mobility or safety issues observed at this location at this time. The requestor can not dictate what side of the street to restrict. They can only request No Parking restrictions on there side of the street. There was no mobility or safety issues observed , therefore there are no further actions that are needed.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
No further actions are needed, there is no mobility or safety issues observed.

- the majority of hours? This block is impassable for two way traffic - every day there is a standoff between cars going opposite directions in the one available westbound lane. Cars back up behind each and the street is effectively closed. There is NO useable shoulder. The edge of the pavement is cracking and falling into the ditch because of that. The street is NOT 20’. EVERYTHING in this report is inaccurate. Nobody’s dictating anything, there is only one place to park and it’s not legal. This is simply moronic and lazy not to mention dangerous. I’ll be sure to provide your information for every accident. Useless!
