We appreciate that the city did take action on Castro Tire (61st/San Pablo) to reduce their clutter, assure compliant building structures, reduce noise (tools/dogs) and minimize chemical spillage/tire storage. Unfortunately, the owner has been Evicted which I don't think people wanted, but not sure of the whole story for the landlord. The issue is not resolved though. The significant sized tire shop and its clutter is planning to move across the street into the open space (the width one car wide around the building) of San Pablo Flea Market and Ricks Glass. The problem is not only this building being sufficiently occupied with good neighbors, BUT the following;
1. sufficient number of businesses currently occupy the San Pablo Flea Market and Ricks Glass space. cant handle overcrowding in that lot.
2. same clutter for which they were likely evicted is going to be moved into a space 1/6th the size with far less oversight
3. number 1. and number 2. above jointly occupying the lot
4. noisy tire shop with industrial tools and two pit bulls up against a residential neighborhood (homes) and equally significant, against the fence which borders the ball diamond. this ball diamond is used every weekend; the clutter, noise and pit bulls do not make for a backdrop to a childs ball game.
5. The Mayor and city counsels big Community Center development project at Golden Gate Park is about to be crowned by a mess tire shop at the primary ball diamond.
Again, appreciate the city making the effort to address the concerns at Castro Tire, but not pleased they are evicted which of course is the landlords decision. It is not an acceptable solution for that mess to simply be moved across the street in a space 1/6th the size.
The owner of the property is a city contracted vendor,Barbara Wiggins (510) 653 - 2824 at One Stop Auto on 61st and San Pablo(510) 653 - 2821. She is likely the decision maker as to who occupies the property; not sure if she is the one planning to rent the ally to Castro Tire or if another tenant of hers.
Not only the city, but it is important for any parent in the Oakland Little League (girl/boys) for football or base/soft ball, as well as local residents to voice their concerns to Ms. Wiggins directly. Please reach out to her now.
