Thank you for reporting your concern to the City of Medford via SeeClickFix.
This appears to be a continuation of another SeeClickFix #13014541.
Thank you for notifying us of your concern again. The City is doing many things to improve safety throughout the City, including on this street and in this neighborhood.
The City has implemented quick build treatments using tall delineator cones to assist vehicles existing Morton to have better sight lines of cars travelling on Winchester. We've coordinated with the City of Somerville to implement Complete Street style interventions to help reduce speeding, require slower turns with tighter radii (at first a pilot of quick build treatments which lead to the permanent curbing at Broadway/Albion/Winchester). This type of treatment helps reduce the likelihood of fast turns from the previously wide turns from Broadway WB to Winchester St NB. Vehicles doing this same maneuver must slow down to make a roughly 90 degree turn and then another turn to access Winchester St.
In terms of the process to get an approved Truck Exclusion, MassDOT sets those rules/criteria. We do do our due diligence and submit for exclusions. For instance, the City submitted a request for Stearns Avenue, a smaller, lower volume road and was denied because the street (and the data) did not meet MassDOT's criteria.
This does not mean we stop trying to improve safety on Medford streets. We use a combination of strategies that may include spot enforcement, signs, cones, curb extensions, pavement marking, etc.
We will continue to look into this street for ways to improve safety. Thank you for your advocacy.
