Our operations department looked into this today and determined the light is running correctly per MDOT's times. Any changes will need to from MDOT.

I understand that you feel that it is proper timing. As stated previously, this is not a safe intersection due to how many cars will run the red light after a very short green light. All other directions have very ample time to traverse the green lights in a safe fashion. Only in the eastbound direction is the intersection timing an unsafe timing. The timing of concern is around the 5pm time frame. If you are not able to adjust this to be safe, then I need to know which organization to contact to correct the more than obvious deficiency. If there is not an agency to be contacted, then which Congress person can be contacted to resolve this.

It is very suspect that the timing is "correct" when it is extremely different than all other directions.

Amy's suggestion sounds good- contact MDOT for more details about how traffic light timing is determined,if you feel a further explanation is needed. I would find it interesting to learn more about this... would you be willing to let followers of this issue know what you find out? Amy has looked into this for you and gotten back to you, but she doesn't work for MDOT and wouldn't be expected to tutor us on the timing of lights. Thanks Amy for your suggestion!

After review, I have discovered that the timing is not correct at the intersection based on the MDOT guidelines. I will personally be timing the intersection today around the 5pm time frame and will report my findings tomorrow. After receiving little interest or concern from MDOT, I will research to find what higher power I may get involved with this.

I will continue to report my findings in the process to help those who may face similar issues.

Jan, I did not ask her to "tutor" me on the timing of the lights rather I was looking for contact info at the MDOT to expedite the resolution of the issue. I feel now that I am caught in the middle of a scenario where no agency wants to take action or responsibility. It's a little unsettling when I am told by one agency it is correct and then discover it is in fact not correct.

Once you get the info would you mind tutoring "us"? Sorry, didn't mean to scold concerning you/Amy and info she could offer. I asked if you'd find out for "us" as Amy can't be the one to tutor us...meant to be a nice way of saying this isn't Amy's purview. This light still poses the same problem. It's way too short as the original poster observed.

As LansingPI stated, this issue remains unresolved. I have done extensive research and timing. The most critical time, and most noticeable, is after the hours of 4pm. The light will turn yellow while the second car is passing through. According to the MDOT standards, this light is not timed correctly. It is disheartening that this issue is taking this long to resolve. They want more money to fix the roads but they can't get the structure in place working correctly with a quick adjustment.

I believe that the issue may be checked at the wrong time of day. I have noticed that during the lunch hour, there is sufficient time for traffic to pass. Around and after the 5pm hour, the timing is most certainly different and is not in conformity to MDOT standards. I have seen too many near miss accidents from cars running red lights as a result of this problem. It is only a matter of time before this results in something tragic.

Eastbound phase is 19 seconds, which should allow 5-6 vehicles to get through. Since this is an MDOT controlled intersection, if you do not feel this is enough time, you should contact MDOT's Lansing Transportation Service Center at 335-3754.

Closing issue as City of Lansing since this is an MDOT signal.

You claim this light it's 19 seconds? Did someone actually check? This video shows otherwise.

The City of Lansing closed this ticket claiming the phase was nineteen seconds long. I provided video footage proving this was not the case and reopened the ticket. It is still a very dangerous intersection with cars running red lights at almost every light change for this direction of traffic.

I fail to see why construction is required to change the timing on a light. I originally reported this on 10-10-2014 and no one seems to care or be reactive to resolve the timing issue. If the city says it's an MDOT issue, then the city should contact MDOT since this is in city limits. It's quite disappointing that instead of resolving the issue, the city responds with false statements and tries to just close it out. Image first safety last I suppose.

This being the construction info with contact person, my question would be why is the city of Lansing working on an MDOT signal?

This issue is still outstanding. There was no construction project.

It seems that none of the agencies wish to take responsibility for this. Very disappointing.

I watched three people barely miss a T-bone because of this issue in the past two weeks alone. Still not a safe intersection.
