These wacky ,strange,"liberal" police and various other local entity policies are from our elected officials, including these clerks,registrar seats.they need these wards also, to perpetuate themselves every election time.

I seriously have a hard time believing this. an officer sees drivers breaking the law in front of his car and he isn't allowed to pull them over? if this is the case, how do they ever stop anyone from speeding, running red lights, etc.?

guest - most people pull over when a police car comes after them with lights flashing. The cops KNOW this group of bikers will not stop, they flee. So they call it a pursuit before it even happens is my guess.

What? Huh? So is this why I get treated like crap when I call in an atv or motorbike on the street? This is nuts, and a public safety issue. What if I am an innocent driver who accidentally kills one of them w/ my car when they come around the corner speeding and popping wheelies? So, now my life is also ruined, because the cops won't prevent this?!

I knew that the reason why people act like it's the wild west here is because the cops let them. No enforcement is going to make things here o downhill real fast. Also, what happened to quality-of-life enforcements, like they have in NY, and like we had somewhat under Chief Lewis? Traffic stops and the like turn up criminals. Do you really think none of those kids on bikes had weapons or drugs on them? Come on. Remember that guy on the atv out in Branford last year w/ his guns?

"Guest": - it happens ALL THE TIME! I have seen MANY MANY MANY events happening right in front of cops and they do NOTHING! Here are a few incidences that *I* PERSONALLY have seen:

1) A 40ish year old hispanic male on a blue retro moped with a 2yr old girl on the front of the bike without restraint, helmet or support. This was at the Kimberly Ave/EllaTGrasso intersection. He was at the front of the line and directly to his right in the front of traffic in the closest lane to him was a cop. Cop turning up Kimberly from Ella, passing this man and did absolutely NOTHING!

2) A red Ram truck, impatient for traffic at a redlight, in front of Ernies Pizza on Whalley, went around 2 cars in front of him, up on the sidewalk, around a telephone pole and around the light to continue on his path straight. A cop was at the front of traffic in the next lane. He did NOTHING!

3) About 6 4wheelers in Edgwood Park driving around the playground area, every now and then stopping to talk to their friends with some loose, some tethered pitbulls. 2 Cop cars sitting nearby in the entry to the Park where it typically is closed off. Doing nothing.

These are just a FEW of the MANY thing I have seen while here in New Haven. SMDH - yerup! This is why people behave badly - because they can.

I have no doubt it happens all the time. i highly doubt this is due to policy. it is not policy to assume that every criminal or biker is going to start a 'pursuit'. that's ridiculous. if they don't try to intervene then they are just being lazy. it's time we stopped allowing police to claim that their hands are tied by policy. I've had enough excuses from the police in this town. previous places I've lived also had 'no pursuit' policies and that did not stop the officers from responding to traffic violations.

Why would they ever stop doing it if they know they will never get caught?!

i also was in new haven last week and i saw some police officers at a check point on ferry st and just when i was coming up on the check point coming up on the other side of the street were 4 dirt bikes doing wheelies right through the check point and the officers did nothing . we need to get rid of this so called police chief and get someone in that has some balls !!!!!

Thanks for that Emma. I posted something that I know is a MAJOR concern with a lot of my neighbors and in the general community. Instead of just saying "Speeding Bikers" (again) as it's been posted a hundred times here, I gave a whole account of something that occurred. I guess I was hoping somebody at NHPD would read the comments and see the general population is not in favor of their policy of "NO PURSUITS" due to the obvious results. Beyond that I'm not sure where to take this.

maybe news 8 could do a story and it might help !!!

The police want to sit down at community meetings aka brunches and teas.It's as if they are on strike. They take turns at these events,nothing gets done ,nothing gets accomplished,it's added to both sides resumes.A cop will get paid to sit there and "do". It might be a coverup for plain incompetence shown by the force in general,but they really show that they need a pat on the back for every call..A classic case of ,"we don't listen to the residents who make these 911", calls or approach us,we need permission from someone who will return a favor for us

Because no action is being taken by NHPD on this issue. I will open a similar issue so it will be in front of their eyes again.
