February 1st-2nd Snow Storm Updates

Winter Storm Warning in Effect 7pm
Citywide Parking Ban in Effect 1am

Another winter storm is predicted to drop 6-14" of snow with heavy winds of up to 30 mph at times followed by colder than normal temperatures throughout the week. The snow begins at 7pm tonight with the highest totals accumulating in the interior and Southwest CT. The City of New Haven is on the edge of the storm and could see any amount of snow as predicted depending on how the storm shifts. Don't risk yourself or others by driving on the roads tonight or tomorrow. The City of New Haven will open its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at 5am Monday. The storm is expected to last until Monday evening with icing of around 1/4" from 7am - 4pm on Monday.

Mayor Toni N. Harp has announced a citywide parking ban beginning at 1am to allow snow removal equipment better access to city streets - the parking restrictions are intended to streamline the city’s response to this week’s snowstorm. The parking ban will be in place beginning at 1AM Monday (after the Superbowl on Sunday).
The New Haven Public Schools are closed on Monday and have made their official announcement through their ParentLink system. Please sign up for notifications from New Haven Public Schools and download their smartphone app:

Park New Haven has announced a special Super(SNOW)Bowl Special. Due to the citywide parking ban, starting at 5:30pm tonight (2/1) Park New Haven will be opening the Temple Street Garage ($3/day) and Granite Square (FREE) for all city residents. The Park New Haven parking ban deals are only available to those residents taking advantage of the garage parking for the citywide parking ban and only applies to customers leaving their vehicles overnight and through the parking ban:

Free alternative parking is available in all New Haven Public Schools parking lots, all city parks parking lots, the Granite Square parking garage, Dixwell Plaza lot (behind the Stetson Branch Library), and for the second storm in a row the Science Park Garage at 276 Winchester. Parking is also available at the Temple Street  parking garage for $3/day beginning at 5:30pm Sunday. Residents are also reminded the neighborhood parking remains permissible on the even-numbered side of city streets. A map of these facilities can be found here:

If parking your vehicle in a lot or garage, be sure to empty out any personal possessions as it is  probable your vehicle will be inaccessible until streets and parking lots have been cleared of snow. We are also asking that all owners of cars sign up to be notified by the City of New Haven's alerts system for when they should remove their cars in the near future.

Trash collection WILL occur on Monday in the City of New Haven. Please put your trash and recycling toters out tonight in a safe place for our DPW crews to collect on Monday. For more information:

Don't forget! During a snow storm, please work to keep your sidewalks clear to their full width. A lot of your neighbors continue to walk and use our sidewalks, and it is important for a Great City to have clear sidewalks during a storm so we all can still get to the store and to bus stops. You can also find additional information regarding snow plowing operations, routes and resident snow  removal do's and don'ts here:

Know if you are on a snow route. There is no parking on both sides of streets that are designated as snow routes during snow emergencies.

Stay ahead of the storm and secure your emergency parking space for the week.  During any citywide parking ban, "don't be the odd car on the block, park on the even side of the street."  Help our community clean up effort by talking to your neighbors and sharing driveways.

Do you live near an elderly or disabled resident who cannot clear their driveway or sidewalk or are you someone who is able to lend a hand?  Whether you are a resident who needs help or a resident who would like to help, sign onto Snowcrew (powered by SeeClickFix) and join a community of people who are working together to freely assist one another with winter storm related snow removal:
